See Through the Smoke
Canada spends $1 billion annually combatting wildfires. “However, indirect costs can rise to several billion dollars from property loss, damaged infrastructure, industrial shutdowns, evacuations, health-related expenses, and losses in sectors including tourism, forestry, and energy,” the Government of Canada says.
Verimap has mapped dangerous, live wildfires for the Alberta and BC governments, including the 2021 massive wildfires in BC.
Flying at night, Verimap’s crew captures thermal imagery of wildfires and then maps the perimeters. Information about the fires’ perimeters helps direct on-the-ground firefighting efforts. It helps to manage the fires more effectively, saving lives and dollars.
