Post-Fire:
Data-Driven Analysis

Document the Devastation

The Government of Canada reports that “on any given day with significant wildfire activity, hundreds of wildfires can be burning in one province or territory at the same time. With limited resources available for wildfire suppression, at times wildfires must be prioritized, with only the most critical wildfires being fought.”

Verimap’s aerial wildfire data can be combined with information about the weather, fuels in the path of the fires and risk factors involving human lives and properties. Together, this data can help government agencies become better at predicting fire progression. This is the key to prioritization. And even though some wildfires don’t “make the cut” in terms of prioritization, if they are left to burn… “in Canada, annual carbon emissions from wildfires can equal the annual carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels across the country.”
